Emirates has partnered with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to become one of the first airline companies worldwide to trial IATA Travel Pass – a mobile app to help travelers quickly and firmly manage their travel in line with any federal government requirements for Covid-19 testing or vaccine info, Emirates Airline announced on Twitter.

IATA Travel Pass allows Emirates travelers to create a ‘digital passport’ to confirm their pre-travel test or vaccination fulfills the requirements of the destination. They will also be able to share the covid-19 test and vaccination certificates with civil authorities and airlines to help with travel. The new app will also allow visitors to manage all travel paperwork digitally and perfectly throughout the travel experience.
Prior to a full fledged launch, Emirates will carry out stage 1 in Dubai for the validation of Covid-19 PCR tests before departure. In this preliminary phase, expected to begin in April, Emirates clients travelling from Dubai will have the ability to share their Covid-19 test status straight with the airline company even prior to reaching the airport through the app, which will then auto-populate the details on the check-in system.
Adel Al Redha Emirates’ Chief Operating Officer stated: “While international travel remains as safe as ever, there are new procedures and travel requirements with the current worldwide pandemic. We have worked with IATA on this innovative solution to streamline and digitally transfer the info that is needed by nations and federal governments into our airline company systems, in a effective and safe manner.”
Nick Careen, IATA Senior Vice President for Airport, Passenger, Cargo and Security said: “This is the initial step in making worldwide travel during the pandemic as practical as possible giving individuals the confidence that they are satisfying all Covid-19 entry requirements by federal governments. As borders re-open, IATA Travel Pass will be further improved with more abilities to meet all governments testing or vaccination confirmation requirements and Emirates customers will be amongst the very first to have these services.”
Within the IATA Travel Pass app, the incorporated computer system registry of travel requirements will also allow travelers to find precise info on travel and entry requirements for all destinations no matter where they are taking a trip from. It will also include a windows registry of screening and ultimately vaccination centres– making it easier for passengers to find screening centres and labs at their departure area which fulfill the requirements for testing and vaccination requirements of their location.
